About the Village of Cache Creek The Village of Cache Creek, incorporated in 1967, is a bustling community in the South Central Interior of British Columbia. It is located at the junction of the Trans Canada Highway (No. 1) and the Cariboo Highway (No. 97), 338 kilometres north of Vancouver and 80 kilometres west of Kamloops. While Cache Creek shares the benefits of mining and forestry related activities, tourism is the main engine of the local economy with 11 motels, numerous restaurants, and gas stations. Two recent industrial developments are the Georgia Pacific Chip Plant and the Wastech Landfill, which has added 75 full time jobs and a $3,000,000 payroll to the local economy. There is a variety of very affordable homes in the detached, duplex, townhouse, and mobile home units along with apartments. For those who want to build their own home, there is an ample supply of residential lots, building sites for apartments, commercial lots and industrial land available for development. Cache Creek supports one elementary school, secondary students attend school 10 kilometres away at Ashcroft, where the University College of the Cariboo also offers courses. Cache Creek is an incorporated Village and provides its residents with water, sewage and garbage collection, while fire protection is provided by a 25 member Volunteer Fire Department. Local government is provided by a Mayor and four Councillors. The Village is situated within a narrow zone of very low precipitation, with an annual rainfall of 10 cm. The area is termed dry continental, being hot and dry in the summer, and cool and dry in the winter. This dry, arid climate and the country living atmosphere is very alluring to retired people.
